últimas noticias de la compañía sobre Prusa CORE One Debuts INDX Eighttoolhead Multimaterial System

Prusa Research has partnered with Bondtech, a Swedish extrusion-technology specialist, to introduce the INDX conversion kit for the Prusa CORE One+. The system uses an eight-toolhead architecture designed to reshape multimaterial 3D printing by balancing color-change speed, material waste and print quality.

Eight-toolhead architecture

The INDX system is not a simple upgrade to a filament-changing device but a new printing architecture. It allows users to load eight different filaments on the Prusa CORE One+ at the same time. With eight independent toolheads, the system can complete tool changes in seconds, enabling multimaterial printing with nearly zero waste.

Induction heating and low thermal mass

The most notable technical feature is the system’s “Smart Head” design. Each head contains an induction coil that works in a manner similar to an induction cooktop: when the system picks up a toolhead, it generates a high-frequency magnetic field that heats the nozzle directly.

Because the nozzle itself serves as the heating element, the design does not require a large aluminum heating block. This direct-heating approach gives the system very high heating rates and low thermal mass.

Technical feature Description
Toolhead count 8 independent toolheads
Heating method Electromagnetic induction direct heating, with no heating block
Material-swap loss About 13 mg (0.013 g) per swap
Automated functions Automatic drive-gear tension adjustment and first-layer calibration
Efficiency without a wipe tower

The INDX system is particularly effective at reducing waste. Through an optimized nozzle-wiping mechanism, it extrudes only about 13 milligrams of plastic per material change to stabilize nozzle pressure. Even for large multimaterial jobs, total waste is typically kept within 20 to 30 grams, eliminating the need for a conventional wipe tower.

Automation and compatibility

To improve ease of use, the INDX integrates several automation and calibration features:

  • Automatic tension adjustment: Users can switch between TPU and rigid engineering filaments without stopping for manual adjustment.
  • First-layer consistency: A load cell integrated into the head enables fully automatic first-layer calibration.
  • High-precision positioning: Eddy-current sensors permanently installed outside the print area provide fast, precise calibration of toolhead offsets.
  • Software ecosystem: Firmware updates support eight-toolhead operation, while EasyPrint software introduces full-spectrum painting and a CMY+BW filament set for precise color mixing.
Frequently Asked Questions
What nozzle size is included with the INDX kit?
The INDX conversion kit includes a hardened high-flow 0.4 mm nozzle by default. Other nozzle diameters can be purchased separately.
What materials does the INDX system support?
The system supports a range of materials from TPU to rigid engineering filaments. Because it features automatic drive-gear tension adjustment, users do not need to manually recalibrate the extruder when changing material types.
How does the system calibrate toolhead offsets?
The INDX uses an eddy-current sensor system installed outside the print area. It detects the nozzle’s physical position without contact, allowing fast and precise calibration of toolhead offsets.
